About the Department

EPM & Investments aim is to create value-adding energy trading services for all stakeholders and external customers by providing superior returns and diversity of fuel supply through financial gas investments that are aligned to SSE's risk strategy. EPM & Investments also offers insight to support the SSE PLC portfolio, while supporting financial investment with well-managed exploration activity.

What is the Role?

The Risk & Assurance Team within Energy Portfolio Management is responsible for managing the market risk & analysis, operational risk & analysis, credit risk and regulatory risks affecting our business and the markets we operate in. We are currently looking for an Assurance Manager to join our team.

You will undertake a key role in the business leading a team who are responsible for the delivery of governance, statutory and legislative compliance, information security, data protection and licence obligations pertaining to business activities. Keeping up to date with the latest changes in the industry and broader political and policy developments you will ensure risk is reported, compliance and regulation to the obligations are met and regulations and legislation affecting our business model are managed. Tasked with contributing to delivery of the budget, you will clearly communicate business plans to your team ensuring they are engaged.

Leading, coaching and managing your team you will create a culture for innovation and improvements, ensuring all ideas are captured and progressed, identifying and implementing opportunities to reduce costs and improve service.

What do I need?

We're looking for someone with an in-depth knowledge of a commercially regulated or market driven business area, along with an understanding of interactions with the Risk Committee, Audit Committee and Executive Committee & Executive Board. The ability to work and adapt in accordance with regulatory change will be essential.

You should have strong business acumen, strategic awareness of the energy industry, strong influencing skills, and be an analytical thinker with the ability to distil complex information and communicate on a variety of levels.

Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills will be essential, to ensure collaboration within the business, legal, compliance, regulation, group audit & group risk teams.

This is an exceptionally demanding role that will require outstanding leadership and managerial skills. You'll be operating within a very fast paced environment, where you will be expected to manage and change behaviours, not just within EPM&I but across other directorates
