About the Department

Our SSE Energy Economics and Markets Codes function is accountable for providing specific legislative, regulatory, industry code, price forecast and market arrangements advice and guidance tailored to the businesses. We provide subject matter expertise and support to the management of SSE's relationships with external industry code stakeholders, such as National Grid and Elexon.

Working with our business, we identify, prioritise and lead SSE's responses to existing and new market frameworks, codes and regulatory policy changes (including dealing with consultation and attending external meetings) to influence and secure the best outcomes for SSE. We also support the business to fully understand, interpret and act upon the changes.

What is the Role?

An opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious individual to join the Electricity Codes team.

Reporting to the Head of Electricity Codes you will be responsible for proactively building and maintaining strategic relationships with external industry / regulatory / trade bodies in relation to our responsibilities under the CUSC and Grid Code in particular, as well as the BSC.

You will lead key pieces of industry codes work such as our involvement with code workgroups. This includes drafting responses to consultations and effectively representing the views of our Business Units through attendance at external events and meetings.

You will be capable of building relationships with stakeholders within the Business Units and externally and will be able to communicate important messages concisely both verbally and in writing.

You will have a strong focus on providing an excellent service for our Business Units, providing accurate and timely guidance on the interpretation of industry code obligations, and be comfortable engaging at all levels in the organisation.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you will ideally be degree qualified with experience of managing relationships with energy industry code parties and code administrators (or equivalent utilities experience). You will be comfortable interpreting industry code obligations and providing advice on this to business colleagues. You will have excellent report writing skills, good attention to detail, first class communication skills and be structured in approach and resilient in character.

Attendance at regular industry meetings has, pre Covid-19, been a key requirement for this role and therefore an element of travel across GB will likely be required.
