SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.
What is the Role?
Due to ongoing growth and contract wins, we currently have an opportunity for an experienced Business Development Director to work within our Sales, Marketing and Operations teams in pursuit of Mechanical and Electrical prospects in excess of £3m. We are flexible on the base location for this role as we have outlets across the UK.
You'll lead, plan, and develop execution of profitable growth for the SSE Contracting business to develop new opportunities in alignment with Business Strategy and plans for sustainable business growth. You'll also leverage robust relationships with key strategic accounts and partners, supported by sales account planning, to ensure agreed objectives and alignment with safety, quality, technical and customer service standards.
Finally, you'll lead a focus on developing customer propositions with enduring long-term value and operate as a senior member of the Contracting Management team interfacing with the rest of the Enterprise business and the central business development management team.
What Do I Need?
To be successful in applying for this role, you'll be required to possess an extensive understanding of how large M&E Contracting businesses operate, working across multiple product delivery and under different business models. You'll also have a good understanding of the challenges and intricacies of operating successfully within a matrix management structure, ensuring a consultative approach to business development. It would be extremely beneficial to have knowledge of the energy and energy services markets; competitor positioning, current market dynamics and developments with the evolving opportunities these bring to SSE.
You should also have previous experience of delivering a business model that achieves a successful end-to-end "Solutions" approach to both BAU and strategic customer requirements. A good understanding of the M&E Contracting, Facilities Management, HV, Rail, Lighting Services and E&I markets along with competitor positioning, current market dynamics and developments would be essential for this role. This ideally would extend to Telecoms market experience. Finally, you'll have sound financial knowledge with an ability to interpret company accounts and create budgets with client business plans.
As an individual you'll ideally be degree educated with experience of operating within a large company environment (in both the public and private sectors) and be proficient in managing all levels of stakeholders to enable achievement of objectives. You should be able to demonstrate a track record of growing revenue and profit through diversified services for key account customers that include investment appraisal experience. You'll also have a successful track record with strong deal structuring experience with proven capability to close significant scale of opportunities typically in excess of £50m.
Finally, an ability to lead, articulate and communicate a vision and strategy for the Contracting business as well as an ability to work well across multi-functional and sometimes remote teams would be essential.
