The Role

The Development Project Managers main purpose is to lead on Onshore wind farms in the SSE Ireland portfolio that are in the early phase of development; including repowering opportunities.

The successful candidate will be taking overall responsibility for progressing development opportunities through pre-planning and planning phases to include all relevant matters such as Business Case compilation, planning consent, securing of lands, health and safety management, engagement with the public and local community and all related project management duties.

You will be required to work as a team with a community of colleagues that provide specialist service to multiple projects ranging from consent manager, to Wind Analyst and Finance modelling to only name a few. Supervising and optimising the performance of the planning consultants and auxiliary EIA consultants in tandem with the consent manager will also be key to the success in the role.


The ideal candidate will be qualified at degree level or equivalent experience with a proven track record in project management preferably in complex projects e.g. project definition and set up, planning, cost, risk, quality and commercial management.

Demonstrable experience of managing multiple projects and the ability to negotiate business requirements simultaneously while having the confidence to challenge all aspects of a project to drive value and efficiency in all areas is essential.

You will have experience in dealing with authorities, pressure groups and statutory stakeholders along with previous exposure to land related matters e.g. lease, easements as well as being acquainted with commercial negotiations.

Previous experience in working in complex, multi-disciplinary projects with strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative with a capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis is a must.

The ability to lead and motivate a team of multi-disciplined individuals, agreeing realistic individual goals and objectives that fit in the overall projects goals and objectives is essential. You should have a degree of experience of commercial drivers for major infrastructure projects and show a keen interest and awareness of current political, environmental context of the energy industry and Onshore wind.
