About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
We currently have a fantastic position for a Design Interface Manager who will be responsible for creating, developing and implementing the Design Interface Management Plan and procedures for the ground-breaking Shetland HVDC project. This plan will identify interfaces, assign to Package teams and monitor progress of these interfaces ensuring that schedule requirements are maintained.
As well as implementing the process and managing the design interfaces between HVDC, AC, civils and cables contracts; you will also aid the application of BIM across all contractors in conjunction with the BIM Manager.
You will have excellent communication skills whereby you will be expected to undertake review of submitted design interfaces & risks and issue to relevant stakeholders for action and follow up systematically.
You will liaise with package teams and contractors to ensure interfaces are being managed and actions progressed. Furthermore, you will be working closely with the project controls team to ensure monthly updates are delivered and reviewed against baseline to identify and challenge any areas of slippage. You will also contribute to identifying Project risks in compliance with the project risk management process.
What do I need?
This is a unique opportunity to guide the senior leaders of the HVDC, AC, civils and cables contracts throughout the project. You will be responsible for the overall design interface picture.
You must have previous experience of multi-contract design and delivery projects to be considered for interview. Ideally, you will have experience in both major project delivery (preferably in the Transmission sector) and a strong understanding of multi discipline engineering and the impact of decisions on programme/commercial aspects of a project.
You will manage a team of interface engineers and work closely with the BIM team as well as working in conjunction with the engineering team, delivery project managers commercial managers across the works packages that make up the delivery of the project.
To be considered for this role, you will have an Engineering degree, be a Chartered Engineer or someone working towards this combined with demonstrable experience of working within a multi-disciplined team.
A background of project controls and planning is essential coupled with an understanding of contract make up and obligations will be key to your success in this role.
Frequent travel to Shetland and Noss Head (Wick) will be required along with travel to SHE Transmission offices in Perth, Inverness and Glasgow.
