About the Department

Our Commercial and Connections teams are the first point of contact for customers wishing to have a new electricity connection, increase the size of their existing connection, install generation, or move the equipment supplying their property. Were here to help whether our customers are building a single home, housing development, industrial development, generation development or independent distribution network. What is the Role?

The Commercial Policy Manager contributes to the delivery of the commercial business objectives of SHE Transmission. Working closely with the Business Planning and Commercial team and wider SHE Transmission business, Transmission Finance and Commercial Account Management Team, they ensure that commercial policy delivers optimum benefits for the business.

The Commercial Policy Manager is responsible for continuous improvement in SHE Transmissions commercial policy positions, proposing and making policy position revisions as required. They are the representative of SHE Transmission and its customers in the ongoing development of industry policies, processes and procedures (particularly the STC and CUSC) and works with business colleagues to ensure regulatory and statutory compliance with licence obligations and applicable industry codes.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, you will have a thorough understanding of the GB Networks businesses gained in a commercial, regulatory or legal environment and in-depth knowledge of the regulatory context of the networks business.

Previous experience in dealing with external stakeholders including System Operator, other transmission owners, Ofgem, BEIS, Government departments (UK and Scottish Gov) and key industry bodies is essential to the success of this role. You will also be aware of the price control challenges and targets around RIIO-T1 and RIIO-T2.

As a strong networker both internally and externally, you will be able to facilitate the development of stakeholders and key industry influencers; demonstrating the ability to carry out commercial negotiations to fulfil objectives.

Previous experience in a customer driven environment where excellent customer service skills is key as well as exceptional people management skills having delivered successful operations within a commercial environment is necessary for the success of this role.

You will have previously worked with challenging timescales and can effectively prioritise, plan and organise, balance immediate and longer-term business priorities while remaining calm in times of stress.

IT skills will be required as you will conduct formal presentations and in doing so, you'll have the confidence to challenge "status quo" when proposing imaginative, appropriate solutions and implementing innovative business improvements

You will have a passion for safety and can promote, engage and reinforce the SSE safety culture.

You should also be willing to travel on a regular basis.
