About the Department
SSE Enterprise comprises three companies: Contracting, Telecoms and Distributed Energy. SSE Enterprise Utilities is part of the Distributed Energy business of SSE plc. Distributed Energy offers a full range of services which contribute to the development of smart cities and smart places, in both public and private sectors. We finance, own, operate and maintain a broad portfolio, from electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure, to distributed energy systems including renewable and low-carbon generation, energy storage and heat networks as well as building owning and adopting private HV networks. This involves providing customers with energy optimisation solutions through intelligent systems and offering platforms and connectivity to enable smart energy infrastructure and demand management services.
Energy Solutions, our energy optimisation division - helps businesses achieve reductions in their building's energy consumption through the maintenance and optimisation of their Building Management Systems.
Due to continued growth we have an opportunity for a talented data scientist to join our expanding team, working closely with the business on some of the most challenging, high profile data science problems in energy.
You will build innovative proof of concepts for complex problems across Distributed Energy with a focus on Smart Buildings
You'll be working alongside our data analysts, a small agile team applying state-of-the-art techniques from data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and decision optimisation as well as building advanced data visualisations. We are building an advanced cloud analytics platform and utilise a variety of data sources ranging from IOT sensor data, geospatial, weather, lidar, fault and predictive maintenance.
The data science team sits within the wider data & analytics team, which includes our analytic development teams, data architects, cloud DevOps engineers, lead management, data management and portfolio management.
Skills and Qualifications:
To considered for this opportunity you will have previous experience in applying data science/machine learning/AI to solve business problems. You will have built state of the art machine learning models and data visualisations within the built environment.
You will have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills which will allow you to interpret and effectively communicate insights to the business and senior executives.
A Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence or equivalent knowledge developed through training or professional experience is required.
Working knowledge of in Python, Git, fluency with SQL, Azure/AWS or similar cloud experience is essential.
