The Enterprise Division comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities. The SSE Enterprise Projects and Operational Support Team support the entire Enterprise division leading the deployment of best practice in assurance, project management, engineering and in handling strategic projects.
SSE Enterprise Telecoms operates a 13,700km private telecoms network, with 265 Points of Presence and connectivity to over 80 commercial data centres that span the UK. With its extensive telecoms engineering experience, the company provides commercial security with unrivalled in-house engineering resource to Service Providers, Large Enterprises and the Public Sector providing a competitive range of leading-edge Ethernet, Cloud Connect, Optical Networking and Co-location services.
What is the Role
The SSE Enterprise Telecoms division is going through a period of significant growth where we have an opportunity for an experience Data Installation Electrician to join our Civils, Fibre and Structured Cabling Team.
This opportunity will enable you to work on one of the largest telecoms and data centre networks within the UK where you will undertake a variety of tasks predominately in the north of the UK working out of the one of our key offices, for both internal and external clients.
You will be involved in the installation of small power circuits, various electrical and data containment systems and installation of various cabling systems, including data communication and telecommunications cabling.
As part of this roll you will be a member of the reactive callout team which covers 1 week in 3, responding to and managing various issues and faults across the country. Therefore, flexibility is a must for this role.
What do I need?
You must be qualified to the current IEE Wiring regulations BS7671 (17th edition or 18th edition) or to City and Guilds 2330 Level 2/3 and have experience of carrying out testing.
City and Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification and substation experience is highly desirable and a background in structured cabling both copper and fibre optic systems would also be advantageous.
You will be a confident communicator with the ability to write, receive and review work packages, safety documentation and relevant drawings to allow the person to undertake the various tasks to completion of the project. Furthermore, you'll liaise with clients, sub-contractors and suppliers as and when required.
A strong understanding of the roles and responsibilities within the CDM regulations is essential and demonstrable experience of Substations is required; paired with the desire to learn new skills in civils and fibre supervision.
As Electrician, you will perform on site daily risk assessments, site inductions and vehicle and plant check sheets/HAVs. As well as assisting in the completion of Construction phase plans, site audits and safety briefs.
As a company vehicle is provided, a full driving licence is required.
