Data Engineer - contract

Would you like to work within an exciting Fintech start-up based out of central London? This is an opportunity to join a highly agile team with the flexibility of a start-up and the backing of an experienced, long standing banking brand.

As a Data Engineer (AWS Redshift, Postgres, Snowflake, Python, SQL, Java , Scala, Terraform Spark, Hadoop) you would be at the forefront of next generation banking, developing solutions that take functionality a level beyond any other provider.

Responsibilities of the successful Data Engineer:

  • Contribute to a big data development team with enthusiasm and drive in an agile environment
  • Capture requirements, design and implement solutions
  • Build a next-gen streaming data platform for operational and analytical use
  • Drive best practices and ensure quality is at the heart of our technical solutions
  • Work with solution architects and product owners to shape future solutions and promote the target vision
  • Champion continuous improvement, identifying waste and helping teams to minimise it
  • Deliver and promote technical excellence based on fundamental principles and standards that you contribute to
  • Work with the Chief Data Officer, Data Architect, fellow data engineers and feature teams to prioritise the feature backlog and define the technical direction
  • With the CDO and Architecture team, agree the technical roadmap to realise the architectural vision for the data capabilities whilst considering the practicalities of delivery

Requirements of the successful Data Engineer:

  • Programming languages: Python, SQL, Java , Scala
  • ETL processes e.g.; Apache Airflow
  • Messaging/event/streaming technology: e.g.; Apache Kafka
  • Big data databases: e.g.; AWS Redshift, Postgres, Snowflake
  • Infrastructure as code: Terraform
  • Cloud technologies: Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform
  • Large-scale data processing frameworks e.g.; Spark, Hadoop
  • Data design: logical and physical design of data structures
  • Source control, continuous integration and deployment
  • Monitoring and alerting in production systems
