What is the Role?
The Digital Ventures team is responsible for coordinating and enabling digitalisation activity across SSE Renewables. As a Data Engineer, you'll be managing, cleaning and preparing data so that it is reliable and available for use by the wider business, as well as helping to improve underlying information management processes and practices.
As part of a new and small team, you'll have the chance to enhance your skills to support the business, in achieving its aspiration of becoming a leading developer and operator of Renewable assets. You'll "pitch in" as required, and maintain involvement through scoping, proof of concept and into delivery, of innovative solutions for the business.
Work will range from ad-hoc support to Renewables staff, agile proofs of concepts, up to multidisciplinary projects with teams comprising Digital Ventures, business users, IT and third parties. As such the development and maintenance of good working relationships throughout the business and beyond will be essential to our success.
Some of your other main accountabilities will include;
-Management and administration of databases and information systems that underpin SSE Renewables projects, products and services.
-Supporting the ongoing migration of operational data to an Azure cloud solution.
-Development of dataset processes for modelling, mining, acquisition and verification.
-Collection of requirements and leading on high level architecture and design of new databases and information systems.
-Supporting management and engineering staff where required with information systems and database knowledge.
What do I need?
We are looking for an inquisitive and creative problem solver, with a proactive attitude, capable of displaying flexibility in the role as required. It is essential that you can work in an uncertain and changing environment, taking the initiative and setting your own goals in pursuit of value.
A proven background in data will allow you add value straight away, but a keenness to build your knowledge of solution development is essential. All this needs to be underpinned by a very strong understanding of Renewables business environment and its assets.
Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to have the following;
-A degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other STEM discipline.
-Strong knowledge and proven ability of using SQL.
-Experience in database design and database administration.
-Experience in cloud data analytics platforms such as Azure or Amazon Web Services.
-Good knowledge of data modelling and statistical modelling.
-Experience with data mining along with presenting results via data visualisation.
