The Role:

You will play a key role in operationalising data and analytics/digital business initiatives. You will mostly build, manage and optimise data pipelines, consequently moving these data pipelines into production for key data and analytics consumers, such as head of BI or business/data analysts. You will report to the Head of Change Management whilst leading a virtual team.

You will also guarantee compliance with data security requirements while creating, improving and operationalising these integrated data pipelines. You will evangelise effective data management practices and liaise with stakeholders and subject-matter experts to plan and deliver high-calibre analytics/data science solutions. You will also collaborate with data analysts and other data consumers and work on their models and algorithms in order to optimise them for data quality, security and governance and deploy them.

Requirements for the Data Engineer (Automation, Metadata, AI, Data Pipelines) role:

  • BA or MsC in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, data management, information science or related (or equivalent work experience). An advanced degree in these subjects would also be beneficial.
  • 3+ years of work experience in data integration, optimisation and data quality, and/or other areas relevant to data engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience working in cross-functional teams to support a multi-departmental data initiative.
  • Experience with analytics tools for Object-oriented scripting, using languages like C.
  • Ability to build and manage data pipelines for data structures encompassing data transformation, metadata, data models and workload management.
  • Knowledge of database programming languages like SQL, PL/SQL for relational databases.
  • Experience with heterogeneous datasets in building/optimising data pipelines, pipeline structures and integrated datasets using traditional data integration technologies, such as ETL/ELT, data replication/CDC, message-oriented data movement, APIs.
  • Experience optimising existing ETL processes and data integration/preparation flows
  • Experience with software tools like PowerBI for semantic-layer-based data discovery.
  • Demonstrable success in working with large, heterogeneous datasets to extract business value through use of data preparation tools
  • Experience with compliance and data quality/security, collaborating with information stewards and privacy/security officers in moving data pipelines into implementation with suitable quality and security standards.
  • Ability to work across various deployment environments such as cloud, hybrid and on-premises, numerous operating systems and through containerisation techniques.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and the ability to apply DevOps/DataOps principles to pipelines to improve communication, automation and integration of data flows between data managers and consumers.
  • You will collaborate with business and IT teams to define issues, refine requirements, and design/develop data deliverables to meet requirements. You will also hold discussions with data consumers on refining data pipelines developed in nonproduction environments and implementing them in production.
