About the Department
Our SSE Markets Regulation and Group Compliance department provides advice and guidance tailored to SSE's seven business units. We oversee and monitor the business units compliance using a risk-based approach, ensuring effective controls and systems are in place and support the business units to take corrective actions. Our department provides subject matter expertise and support to the management of SSE's relationships with external regulatory stakeholders, such as Ofgem. We also support each of SSE's business units to understand, interpret and act upon regulatory changes.
What is the role?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our Group Compliance team.
Reporting to the Group Compliance Operations Manager you will complete compliance reviews which scrutinise the activities of SSE's seven business units and Corporate support functions to assess compliance with regulatory and legal obligations, and with internal procedural/policy requirements.
You will be required to develop and maintain an understanding of the external regulation and legislation which applies to your allocated business unit and assist the business to identify associated compliance risks. This will include advising on the application of rules and obligations and ensuring appropriate systems and controls are in place to manage risks to safeguard SSE from breaching its external obligations.
Conducting compliance reviews across all SSE business units, in accordance with an independent compliance monitoring programme to enable early identification of non-compliant practices, is an essential part of the role. Providing consultancy on the handling of compliance issues, development of process documentation and the implementation of corrective actions are also key requirements.
The role offers significant variety in the nature of review work to be carried out. It also gives high visibility, through regular communications with senior business managers and provides excellent experience and routes for career progression within the SSE Group.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you will ideally be degree qualified, with strong experience of auditing business systems and controls, or have demonstrable skills of interpreting and applying regulatory rules within an operational environment in a heavily regulated industry.
Alternatively, this may be a good opportunity for a graduate or ambitious new starter with some business experience who has a desire to develop audit skills and broaden their knowledge of the energy industry.
You will have excellent report writing skills, good attention to detail, ability to manage your time and workload efficiently, have first class negotiation/influencing skills and be structured in approach and resilient in character. You will also be a confident communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of internal stakeholders.
An element of travel across the UK and Ireland will be required, so you should preferably be able to drive. Although this position is open to UK-wide applicants, a presence at SSE main sites will be required.
When applying for this role please state in your cover note why you wish to be considered, and why you think you would be a good fit for the role.
