About the Department
Our Company Secretary and Investor Relations teams are responsible for ensuring that the Company and our Directors meet all appropriate legal and reporting obligations.
Investor Relations (IR) facilitates effective communication between the Company and the investment community (primarily existing and prospective shareholders and City analysts), allowing our stakeholders to make an informed judgement about the fair value of the business, and its appropriate ownership. We are the main point of contact for all day-to-day enquiries, as well as the Group financial results reporting cycle.
The Company Secretarial team is a small professional team who have a wide and varied range of responsibilities, including management of Board & Committee Meeting Services, Corporate Governance, Listed and Group Company Compliance, Shareholders, Employee Share Plans and Corporate Projects.
What is the Role?
SSE is looking for a financially literate, analytically minded and committed individual to join its Investor Relations and Company Secretarial team in Perth. This is an ideal development role for an entry level graduate looking to explore a career in a FTSE 100 company with exposure to the work of two key corporate functions, SSEs Board of Directors and Senior Management team and key areas of the business.
The role will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to gain strategic experience within one of the UKs largest energy providers. The individual will build a full appreciation of SSEs businesses, gain exposure to the operation of an FTSE 100 company and be involved in the management of relationships with shareholders and a range of other key stakeholders. The individual will be expected to deliver significant responsibilities with confidence and credibility and will play an integral part of delivering SSEs overall Investor Relations and Company Secretariat objectives.
It is anticipated that after a 12-18-month period working in both functions, the individual will specialise in either Investor Relations or Company Secretarial. The individual will work together with the team on their training requirements and may be provided with the opportunity to work towards obtaining a professional qualification with full study support.
What do I need?
While prior experience is not necessary, you should have a keen interest in financial markets, the operating environment and governance systems within a large organisation. You must be able to demonstrate expertise in Microsoft Excel and Word while producing advanced Power Point presentations. The ideal candidate will hold either a relevant degree and/or will have some relevant professional experience.
Following initial instruction, you will be able to work independently while also being an enthusiastic team player with a flexible attitude and a disciplined approach to planning and data management. High integrity, attention to detail and good communication skills are a must, as is the ability to remain positive and professional while delivering results under pressure.
Some travel is likely.
