People in Corporate Affairs work collaboratively externally and internally to advise, influence and communicate in order to help SSEs businesses succeed and contribute to SSE being a leading energy provider in a low-carbon world. We have a wide range of audiences we want to reach including investors, competitors, governments, partners, suppliers, communities and prospective employees, and our Corporate Affairs team build and cultivate these relationships to help us get our story across.
What is the Role
As a Community Engagement Manager within the SSE Renewables' Corporate Affairs team, your role will be to build strong and effective relationships with communities and stakeholders throughout the project development process, while also enhancing the value and protecting the reputation of SSE Renewables as a responsible developer.
You will do this through the establishment of trusted relationships with communities and stakeholders, and the ongoing management of these relationships, related issues arising, communications, public and media relations relating to SSE Renewables' offshore wind projects in development. You will be creating a strategy for consulting and engaging with local communities, to identifying opportunities for local collaboration, as well as reputational risks, create a strategy for handling these, and delivering positive outcomes for both the community and business needs.
To be successful in this role you will work closely with the offshore wind project development teams and with Corporate Affairs colleagues working on policy, sustainability and media. Externally, you will create positive working relationships with key external stakeholders, including residents and other members of the public, elected representatives, and community organisations.
What do I need?
You will be a problem solver, with the ability to proactively identify potential issues in order to mitigate or respond to issues as they arise with a view to achieving a successful outcome for all involved. You will be adept at building trusted relationships, and effectively managing conflict and brokering solutions. You will use your strong communications skills across a range of platforms, depending on project and audience, for example, websites, social media, newspapers, letters, presentations, community meetings, one-to-one meetings. In addition to keeping audiences up to date with project developments, you will identify positive news to support the aims of the project and position SSE Renewables in a positive light. You will have excellent time management skills with the ability to manage a changeable workload. Although you will work closely with Corporate Affairs and project team colleagues, you will have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility for leading on specific projects.
The role requires a reasonable amount of travel - as well as occasional evening and weekend working to attend community meetings. You will have good knowledge of SSE Renewables' safety culture and the importance of risk assessing all circumstances, for example travel to remote locations and working on sites in construction and operation.
