About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role
As a Commissioning Support Engineer, youll lead the Transmission Project Teams through the commissioning process to ensure that projects are delivered safely onto the network in line with SHE Transmission commissioning policy and procedures. Ensuring that all commissioning requirements are considered and delivered at every stage of a project, you will be involved at project inception through to final handover to Operations.
You'll analyse project layouts and designs, alongside other transmission engineers, to establish the configuration which best meets transmission objectives to provide timely delivery of projects whilst maintaining security of the network. The role also involves working with engineering teams to develop project build sequence diagrams, covering how projects will be delivered, identifying: key dates, outage requirements, interim running arrangements and interfaces with the HV Transmission and Distribution systems. You will check that commissioning activities meet the needs of the network as well as National Grid licensing obligations. Youll participate in safety and design reviews to coordinate commissioning activities with project managers and the engineering teams in the delivery of transmission capital and revenue projects. You will also be expected to chair project Commissioning Panels.
What do I need?
You must have a proven track record within the Transmission industry and demonstrable experience of design, installation, operational and commissioning activities across Transmission voltages is essential.
Youll be educated to HNC level and/or have experience of working in a HV Transmission environment.
Youll have ability to deliver high quality work in a demanding project environment and be a strong leader and people manager with the ability to coordinate and motivate project teams through Commissioning Panel meetings and with stakeholders.
