About the Department
Our Procurement & Commercial function has a key part to play in fulfilling SSEs obligations as a UK-listed company, providing expertise and services that can be shared across the SSE Group, and working in partnership with all businesses to provide services tailored to their specific needs. SSE operates in a highly regulated and increasingly competitive environment, and our role is to ensure that we gather, compile, analyse and recommend on the financial strategy for our businesses, identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies and create value for SSE now, and in the future.
What is the Role
Reporting to the Head of Procurement & Commercial Large Capital Projects the Project Commercial Director will work in conjunction with the Project Director and be responsible for leading, concluding major contract negotiations (Tier 1 / EPCI) and administering those major contracts ensuring optimal commercial, financial and risk positions for the project.
The role will require effective leadership and provision of strategic direction to multiple project package teams working on a large scale and complex Offshore wind project.
The role will also ensure project procurement and commercial activities across the project comply with SSEs Large Capital Project (LCP) governance framework and provide assurance to SSE Renewables Executive Committee that the project contracts will achieve the stated project objectives and returns.
The leadership and development of multiple project procurement and commercial package teams and participating/assisting the project package managers and their multi discipline teams with all contractual and commercial issues.
- Representing Procurement & Commercial under the LCP governance framework and supporting the Project Director at the Project Review Board to influence overall project governance and performance.
- Utilising advanced negotiation and influencing skills to achieve resolution management throughout the project both internally and externally.
- Managing value and control cost without compromising contractual obligations and risk positions
- Continually review in detail the commercial, legal and risk aspects of the project to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information presented to the Project Director and the Project Review Board.
- Ensuring SSE internal procurement & commercial process and LCP governance followed including auditing compliance.
What do I need?
Due to the nature of this role, we are looking for the following;
-Degree educated with legal/commercial degree or equivalent
-Significant demonstrable experience of working in a construction project environment on high value major projects at senior commercial or director level
-Strong commercial awareness and negotiator with significant demonstrable experience of concluding major EPCI contracts and the ability to influence at all levels both internally and externally
-Well-versed and experienced with communicating at Senior levels within major corporates with the ability to effectively tailor communications and consistently achieve clarity, brevity and impact in all communications and presentations
-Strong background in dispute resolution
-Proven ability to interrogate, identify, manage and mitigate major project risks, opportunities and trends
-Proven ability to identify critical relationships and strategically anticipate and manage potential conflict and disagreement, creating understanding and resolutions from difficult or complex situations
-Problem solver and strategic thinker with the ability to consider the bigger picture
-Strong numeracy and financial capability with the proven ability to interpret, distil, correlate and present large volumes of data (including costs) identifying deviations, trends, priorities, action plans, opportunities and mitigations for the project
-Structured and systematic with high levels of organisation capability to set the direction of the team and measure against delivery to the agreed quality and timescales
-Proven experience of building, maintaining, developing, empowering and leading high performance teams across diverse project package
