What is the Role
We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer with knowledge and experience in the development and execution of large-scale projects, particularly those associated with Wind Projects to join the Renewable Engineering and Innovation business. This role will support the SSE Renewables businesses through acting as a focal point for the Design Authority process to achieve appropriate standards, legislation and project objectives, whilst also ensuring value engineering and innovation are incorporated in the design of the cabling from landfall to the substation and the substation/converter station.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you should be a Chartered Engineer or have a very clear path to becoming chartered in the next year. You should have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience within onshore developments and ideally have some experience in cabling, substations or roads infrastructure design and transportation. Experience in horizontal directional drilling and other forms of cable installation, geotechnics and the preparation of contract specifications and works information is preferable but not essential.
You should have experience in working on large scale projects and will be comfortable making engineering-based decisions with significant impact on engineering risk. You'll have a strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions. In particular, we are looking for individuals who have skills in the following;
-Experience in managing 3rd party consultants and contractors for specific areas of design.
-Understanding of the interfaces and technical risk between the key design engineering disciplines and the impacts of decisions on land-take, planning and the environment.
-Experience in managing the verification and validation of design against key design specifications.
-Experience of managing the initial design through to construction and the importance of safety and ease of construction.
-Understanding of designing for efficient operation of the assets.
You will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will possess an innovative mind set, have a flexible approach and have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. Although office based you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken.
