We are currently seeking a Civils Engineer within the Civil Engineering Team with knowledge and experience in the development and execution of large-scale projects, particularly those associated with Wind Projects to join the Renewable Engineering Centre. This role will support the SSE Renewables businesses through acting as a focal point for the Design Authority process to achieve appropriate standards, legislation and project objectives, whilst also ensuring value engineering and innovation are incorporated in the design of Onshore Wind Farms, the onshore elements of Offshore Wind Farms, new Hydro Electric Schemes as well as the assessment of existing renewable generating assets.
Your Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should be a Chartered Engineer or have a very clear path to becoming chartered. You should have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience within onshore developments.
Experience in geotechnics and the preparation of contract specifications and works information is advantageous but not essential.
You will need experience in working on large scale projects and be comfortable making engineering-based decisions with significant impact on engineering risk. Strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions is necessary.
Due to the nature of this role, we are also looking for you the following;
-Experience in managing 3rd party consultants for specific areas of design.
-Understanding of the interfaces and technical risk between the key design engineering disciplines and the impacts of decisions on land-take, planning and the environment.
-Experience in managing the verification and validation of design against key design specifications.
-Experience of managing the initial design through to construction and the importance safety and ease of construction.
-Understanding of designing for efficient operation of the assets.
You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, possess an innovative mind set, and have a flexible approach with the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. Although office based you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, therefore a full valid driving license is essential.
