The Role

We are currently seeking an Asset Engineer within the Civil Engineering Team with knowledge and experience in asset management of large-scale civil assets, particularly those associated with Hydro generation to join the Renewable Engineering Centre. This role will support the SSE Renewables businesses through the assessment of existing Hydro generating assets including Dams, Reservoirs Tunnels and Penstocks (pipelines).

The candidate will also have the opportunity to get involved in a number of Hydro projects looking at new Hydro generating facilities, the re-planting/major overhaul of existing Hydro Power Stations as well as opportunities to bring efficiencies to existing Hydro generating Stations.

Those seeking to become a Supervising Engineer under the Reservoir Act would be fully supported by SSE in their application.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you should be a Chartered Engineer or have a very clear path to becoming chartered. You'll have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience within Hydro Generation and ideally have some experience in Dams, Reservoirs, Tunnels or Penstocks. Experience in hydraulics or geo-technics is advantageous but not essential.

It's imperative that you're comfortable making engineering-based decisions with significant impact on engineering risk. Strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions will also be necessary.

Due to the nature of this role, we are also looking for you to have the following;

-Experience in the assessment of ageing civil infrastructure.

-Experience in the preparation of technical reports and recommendations.

-Experience in managing 3rd party consultants for specific areas of design.

-Understanding of the interfaces and technical risk between the key design engineering disciplines and the impacts of decisions.

-Experience in managing the verification and validation of design against key design specifications.

-Understanding of efficient operation of assets.

You'll have strong communication and interpersonal skills, possess an innovative mind set, and have a flexible approach with the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. Although office based you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, therefore, a full valid driving license is essential.
