About the Department

At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.

Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

What is the Role

Due to continued growth, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Cable Layer to join our team in South England Oxfordshire. As a Cable Layer you will be part of a Team of Civils operatives responsible for the installation and maintenance of our underground cable network.

The job will involve working on our construction works under the SSE Utility Services Group excavating and laying cables for a new underground network and carrying out reinstatements following cable failures. This is a physically demanding role and will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions.

What do I need?

You'll have previous experience working on Civils related projects and should hold an NRSWA, plant operator and CSCS authorisations. A full and clean driving licence is required. We are always interested in new ways of working and will look to you for innovative ideas to improve processes and move the business forwards.

You'll be a great team worker and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail. Having excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work accurately and independently is essential and holding a high regard for safety, of both yourself and your surroundings always is imperative.
