About the Department
Our SSE Finance function has a key part to play in fulfilling SSEs obligations as a UK-listed company, providing expertise and services that can be shared across the SSE Group, and working in partnership with all businesses to provide services tailored to their specific needs. SSE operates in a highly regulated and increasingly competitive environment, and our role is to ensure that we gather, compile, analyse and recommend on the financial strategy for our businesses, identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies and create value for SSE now, and in the future.
What is the Role?
This role will be responsible for providing statistical and analytical support to the Electricity Distribution business at a critical time of change as we transition to the new price control period. This is a varied and challenging role as it helps provide a foundation for strategic planning and insight to the Electricity Distribution business, including the Leadership Team. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be able to highlight important areas of opportunity by exploring data trends and relationships and be able to manage business-critical information and priorities. The role will therefore involve data analysis, statistical modelling and industry benchmarking to support business operations and to help enhance data quality.
As a natural monopoly, our Electricity Distribution business is subject to regulatory oversight by the industry regulator, Ofgem. As such we have a 'Regulatory Contract' (referred often to as a Regulatory License) in which we are required to comply with several obligations and underpins our financial and business performance drivers. We are currently towards the end of price control period for Electricity Distribution (RIIO-EDI) and preparing for the next (RIIO-ED2). With the business going through this transition, ensuring value for money delivery for customers and shareholders is of utmost importance.
Supporting the Distribution Finance Business Partner and leading the regulatory driven cost assessment process;
Provide Benchmarking analysis and insight to drive business strategy and activities;
Responsible for running statistical models, identifying key data relationships which highlight value for money opportunities to the customer and shareholder;
Establishing and improving processes, procedures and methodologies for measuring performance and data quality;
Working closely with colleagues in Distribution and Finance to improve robustness and quality of financial information, while also using this information to help drive business processes and efficiencies;
Building strong working relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external), including Ofgem, network operators, the business, wider finance teams and regulation.
What do I need?
Maths / Statistics degree or similar.
Has an interest in working with large data sets, forming conclusions in data relationships, correlations and trends;
Is pro-active and uses initiative to develop and enhance understanding of complex statistical modelling and economic cost drivers;
Has experience, or interest, in statistical modelling software such as Stata;
Has an interest in the wider business and its commercial drivers and keen to develop skills and experience further, as part of professional development;
Willing to undertake a varied and challenging role;
Overall, you will need to be assertive, pro-active and diligent in your approach and be willing to undertake challenging tasks often beyond your 'comfort zone'.
