What is the Role?
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Engineering Manager to join our growing team within SSE Transmission. Within this role, you will be responsible for delivering engineering for high profile, high value and technically complex Transmission projects.
Supporting the Engineering Manager; you will lead a team of multi-discipline engineers whereby you will be involved at all stages of projects from development through refinement to delivery and commissioning and handover.
As the Assistant Engineering Manager, you will also be responsible for ensuring technical specifications are correctly selected and implemented, and ensuring quality is delivered for all engineering deliverables.
With strong communication skills and previous knowledge of stakeholder management, you will liaise with other key internal departments and external consultants as part of this exciting challenge.
What Experience and Qualifications do I Need?
To be considered for this career enhancing opportunity, you will ideally have a degree in an engineering discipline, or an HND with combined relevant experience. You will have demonstrable experience and technical knowledge of the Transmission networks and its associated design and standards. Furthermore, you will be confident in your ability to technically assess any potential problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
A thorough technical understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR, and the implications of this for transmission network management is essential.
Candidates will preferably be either a Chartered Engineer or working towards this. SSEN fully recognises, encourages and supports our engineers in this and their continued professional development.
About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
