About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
We are currently recruiting for Asset Engineers into our Asset Management team to assess, understand and predict the performance, integrity and condition of transmission network assets and enable timely interventions to maintain overall network reliability.
Working closely with the Project Delivery and Operational Teams, you will deliver value and contribute to the overall operational excellence of the business. This will require a practical approach combining effective and efficient technical advice and the accurate review and reporting of asset condition from which you will be required to undertake thorough and detailed interpretation and analysis before making recommendation on the need for intervention.
You will be required to communicate the results of such assessments effectively to various stakeholders and assist in developing work plans including the design of repair/modification/replacement works, cost estimating and programming.
There is also the opportunity to become involved in our diverse new build project portfolio including the connection of onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro schemes, and other emerging technologies.
This role offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to become involved in the full life cycle from conception to decommissioning of large infrastructure. Although office-based, you will make frequent site visits and enjoy immense variety in your role that few other companies could offer due to our unique portfolio of assets.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, you should have keen interest in asset management and experience of either design, construction or operation & maintenance of at least one of these subjects; Overhead Line, Cable, Substation, Civils, Smart Monitoring, Protection and Communications, and ideally educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering subject. Please indicate your preferred area of specialism in your covering letter.
You will have an understanding of legislation, design and operational standards. The ideal candidate will be Chartered or close to it, and will have experience relating to asset integrity, risk and the performance of ageing structures.
You will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess an innovative mind set, with a flexible approach.
Furthermore, you'll have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment.
The technical support and guidance you provide will relate to assets including cables, overhead lines, transformers, switchgear and associated assets.
