About the Department
Energy Customer Solutions is the face of SSE to our customers in GB and Ireland, providing leading and reliable B2B services as well as leading retail solutions for our B2C customers.
What is the Role?
SSE's Business & Operational Support department is responsible for providing technical support to Business Energy. We provide support for existing applications, manage the testing and rollout of all new applications and releases, and respond to business requirements for change using rapid application development tools (primarily C# .Net, SQL, MS Access and MS Excel).
You'll respond to a high demand of support requests from the business area and will take a lead role in the design and development of solutions using a variety of software. You'll also be expected to assist in the development of MIS reports from a variety of systems. Working on your own initiative, you'll plan and manage tasks to meet deadlines and will be responsible for ensuring that all challenges are effectively resolved. You'll also identify opportunities to reduce cost drivers and improve efficiency and customer service within the process.
We work in a pressurised environment and you will need to be able to demonstrate a proactive approach, prioritise your own workload within demanding schedules and take ownership of problems and requests. Teamwork is also a key part of this role where you'll be expected to share your knowledge and experience with others to build up a broad set of skills across the team.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you should possess knowledge of C# .Net, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel and/or SQL Programming/Server. Previous knowledge of the energy industry would be an advantage. You should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and have the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. Ideally you, will demonstrate a high attention to detail and will be a natural problem solver.
Your responsibilities will be to help to support about thirty applications that range from 3rd party supplied systems through to in-house developed systems using C#.net, SQL and Microsoft Access. A variety of skills and knowledge will be able to be learned to add to these core skills and then applied to ensure the quality of the applications. Time spent on front line support will be complimented with time spent on small pieces of development work.
